Not your grandfather's browser

A few words on why word- and pdf- documents on the web will quickly be obsolete.

There are two pieces of information a few weeks ago that clearly points to the fact that we are seeing growth in diversity of the web usage. First we have the amazing iPhone users search 5000% more on Google than the nearest competitor which means that mobile internet now is for real. Lot's of people are now accessing the web with devices which make word documents look horrible if they can be viewed at all.

Then we have the Asus success with the EeePC being sold at a pace of one EeePC every 7:th second. The Eee having a 7 inch screen and Linux (Windows XP should soon be available if not already). Word compatibility exists using OpenOffice.org but it may not look as the author intended.

What all this boils down is that the web was intended for a multitude of different devices, then for a few years the PC with Internet Explorer dominated the web to such an extent people got away being ignorant of all the rest. Not so any more I think.
