Short introduction to the program at 60 Degrees North

Note: this is the english translation of the Swedish original post. In case you didn’t know, this is the Vässarö program staff’s blogg and not the official information channel.

Recently, I received some questions about the way program will work at 60 Degrees North and since I am part of the program planning team, I figured I should write them down.

On sunday the 20:th of march, the staff  for 60 Degrees North handling program activities will have a program meeting, after that meeting a longer report will be available here.

In short, 60 Degrees North is a camp period, and any group visiting our island are welcome to have their camp at any time interval. However, you might want to check out our master plan for the two weeks before deciding on your own program and activities.

Our main idéa for 60 Degrees North is that we all scouts on the island should spend more time together simultaneously. Therefore we have scheduled / suggested time and dates for campfires, discos, film etc. so all the different visiting groups won’t have to negotiate among each other for the best time. We have alredy done that for you. This does not mean we will do everything for you, read your camp information carefully.

Another idéa is that we want to facilitate the international feeling of the camp period by changing the way our program normally work by changing a few scheduled activities into drop-in activities and by adding a few more social “together”-activities. In the end it’s up to you whether you want to be for yourself or meet other scouts on the island.

There is a rough preliminary plan for 60 Degrees North, see below:

One more thing: Miniscout is for kids about 8 to 10 years old.

 Notes:
 1. The sunday services in the chappel are part of the catechist camp and not 60 Degrees North but we think we should inform they exists because everyone is welcome, yet normally only a few knows this.
 2. There are many discos, the idea is that we will have different focus and themes so just because it is the disco that does not mean that there is a standard Vässarö disco. There will be standard discos too, but we will also have more musically specialized events.
 4. For the large camp fires, we have set dates, but we at 60 Degrees North does not lead or arrange them, We believe the participants themselves have all the talent and leadership required. If needed, we have some PA equipment.
